چکیده

This paper proposes a three levels cascade control topology for the VSC and DC/DC converters used in DC grids. The inner control level regulates local current as in all VSC converters. The middle control level uses PI feedback control of local DC voltage on all terminals. At the highest level, each station reference DC voltage is set based on desired power transfer and observing DC voltage limits. The advantage of this approach is that there is very strong DC voltage control across whole grid implying that stability and transient performance are excellent. In case of major outages, this method shows very robust recoveries. The control method has been implemented on all VSC and DC/DC converters in the CIGRE DC grid benchmark test system. The performance is tested on PSCAD/EMTDC for three severe outages: one VSC converter, one DC/DC converter and one DC cable. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the control topology.
